Charcoal on Paper
Artist Statement
Now You See Me is a series of charcoal works that focuses on endangered and vulnerable animals—creatures we can still see today, but may lose in the near future. Through rich contrast and detailed realism, I aimed to capture not only their beauty, but also their strength, resilience, and determination to survive in a world shaped by human impact.
Each piece highlights the animal’s presence with quiet intensity. The close lighting and deep shadows are intentional, creating the feeling that the subject is emerging from darkness—seen clearly for a moment, yet always at risk of fading away. This visual tension echoes the idea behind the title: we see them now… but we may not always.
At the heart of the collection is a belief in choice. These animals fight every day against threats they did not create, and their tenacity reflects what is still possible if we decide to do better. By drawing them with such care and attention, I wanted to honour their spirit while reminding us that their future depends on our actions. We can choose to protect them. We can choose to put our energy into restoring the earth rather than harming it.
Now You See Me is both a tribute and a call to action—an invitation to look closely, to value what remains, and to take responsibility before “now you don’t” becomes our reality.
