Landscapes & Seascapes
Hello, I’m Rachel Stubbs, an artist based in beautiful Mid-Devon, UK. I create original paintings and drawings inspired by landscapes and seascapes. Across shifting coastlines and open horizons, my land and seascapes are an exploration of movement, light, and atmosphere. Working primarily in oils, I build each painting through layers — allowing colour, texture, and gesture to echo the rhythm of tide, wind, and weather. From expansive skies over quiet fields to the restless energy of the sea, my work is less about capturing a precise place and more about holding a feeling — that fleeting moment when landscape becomes something deeply personal.
Texture plays a central role in my process. I use palette knives, brushes, and intuitive mark-making to create surfaces that feel alive — ridged like cliffs, softened like mist, or sweeping like distant surf. The result is work that shifts throughout the day as the light changes, offering new subtleties and depth each time you return to it. Each piece is designed to bring a sense of calm, space, and connection into your home.
